Members of the Ukraine TB Caucus adopt a resolution on TB

Last week, members of the Ukraine TB Caucus adopted a Resolution on tuberculosis (TB) and COVID-19. The resolution was then sent for consideration to the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

The text of the Resolution is the national adaptation of the Global TB Caucus statement of intent on TB and COVID-19, adopted after the 2020 Executive Committee meeting of the Caucus. In this resolution Members of Parliament (MPs) once again emphasise the importance of consolidating the commitment to the fight against TB in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and at all levels of government and leadership.

The document discusses negative impacts of the pandemic and related restrictive measures on TB, in particular regarding TB cases detection, which has not yet fully manifested itself, but will certainly have dire consequences for high TB burden countries, including Ukraine.

In the Resolution, parliamentarians call on their Government and local governments to step up their efforts in 2021 to fight COVID-19 and TB, ensuring, particularly, the rational and efficient use of existing financial resources and certifying that TB funding is not redistributed.

Members of the Ukraine TB Caucus undertook to continue scrutiny of the protection of people affected by TB's rights, especially in the context of COVID-19, and to amend it if necessary, as well as to promote the most effective cooperation with international and national stakeholders, public organisations and all partners in the fight agains TB.

The text of the resolution in Ukrainian is available here.
