Tajikistan adopts a national resolution on TB

Updated: Oct 12, 2020

On the 25th of September the Tajikistan national TB Caucus adopted a national resolution on COVID-19 and its impact on Tuberculosis (TB). The resolution was signed by several members of the national TB Caucus including, Hon Jamshed Murtazakulov, Head of the national Tajik Caucus and Co-chair of the EECA region of the Global TB Caucus, Hon Ravshan Razabzoda, Hon Mavludahon Mirzozoda, Hon Sarvinoz Mazidova, Hon Mashrab Faizulloyev, Hon Gulbahor Naziri, Hon Nasiba Sadiki, Hon Lutfia Abduholikzoda, Hon Gavhar Sharofzoda, Hon Gulbahor Ashurova and Hon Zufar Ismoilzoda.

The content of the resolution is based on the regional EECA resolution on COVID-19, which was adopted during the on-line meeting of the regional heads of national Caucuses, in June 11th, 2020. During this meeting, members agreed on the importance of reaching across political and geographical divides to build commitment in their own countries and beyond to secure a coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the TB epidemic, based on the right of every human being to health. MPs also agreed to adopt a similar resolution adapted to each EECA country. Tajikistan was the first country to do so.

This national specific resolution was discussed and agreed with the Global TB Caucus focal point Mr Safar Naimov (Stop TB Partnership. Tajikistan). Members reaffirmed their commitment to the Global TB Caucus’ vision of a united parliamentary response to TB that

transcends political and geographical boundaries and commit to working in partnership with all regional stakeholders, including TB survivors, the World Health Organisation, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, the Stop TB Partnership, the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, partners of the TB REP 2.0 regional project, civil society, among others, to ensure that the world recovers from this crisis. They paid tribute to all health care professionals and frontline workers for the essential services they are providing to our societies and citizens.

Members of the national Tajik TB Caucus committed to present results on the targets, mentioned in the Resolution until the next regional EECA meeting of heads of national TB caucuses, which is planned in autumn 2020. A special attention should be paid to the Head of the national Tajik TB Caucus, Co-chair of the EECA regional TB Caucus, Hon Jamshed Murtazakulov, who put his best efforts to engage new members of parliament to be a part of the global parliamentarian network Global TB Caucus and encouraged them to work together to end the epidemic of TB in Tajikistan.
